It remains to be seen whether the NBA's new approach to the All-Star Game (which you can re-brief yourself on here) will be successful or not. But the league's biggest star, LeBron James, is all for it based upon the premise that the old style has sucked recently, as he indicated to the media on Tuesday. According to ESPN writer Dave McMenamin, LeBron said the following about the annual contest's sweeping changes:

"I don’t see it as a bad idea. We had to do something. The All-Star Game has been pretty bad the last couple years just from a competition standpoint. Trying to switch it up. Just like how the dunk contest was at one point it was great, then it wasn’t so well, so they had to kind of switch it up. Then it got good, then it got bad and you switch it up again. You see what happens. It’s hard to say if it’s good or bad yet. We haven’t done it yet. February isn’t here yet so no one knows how good or how bad it’s going to be. But I like the change. Why not?"

For those who are either unaware, or didn't click the link above, in 2018 the contest will shift from its traditional East-West format to a style more in-line with a pick-up game. Fans will choose one captain from each conference who will go on to select their squad(s) from a pool of 22 players. The draft date is yet to be announced, but will take place sometime before All-Star Weekend. This massive alteration reportedly came about following a joint effort from both the players' union and the league.

So, as for the real question, WILL IT WORK!!? We don't know. Check back in February.
