Kanye West Randomly Calls NBA Player in Middle of Night for Pep Talk

What’s up, guys? TK here for Complex News. Memphis is the smallest TV market in the entire NBA, so unfortunately, there aren’t a whole lot of NBA fans who get to watch Grizzlies guard Mike Conley play on a night in, night out basis. And that’s a shame when you consider what Conley has been able to do in recent seasons. Last year, he averaged 20.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game for a Memphis team that earned a 7 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. And in doing so, he solidified himself as one of the most underrated guards in the league. He also apparently solidified himself as one of Kanye West’s favorite NBA players, and that led to a pretty hilarious phone call between Kanye and Conley this summer. On Monday, Conley was talking to reporters at Grizzlies’ media day when he revealed that he received a call from Kanye just after midnightone night during the offseason. At first, Conley didn’t know what to make of it, but before long, Kanye was singing his praises and telling him that he wanted to hang out the next time Conley is in Los Angeles. Kanye didn’t stop there. He also told Conley that he thinks more people need to be paying attention to him. According to Kanye, Conley should be a much bigger star than he is today, regardless of where he’s playing. “He was just going like, ‘Man, I think you should be up here. They just don’t see you like that.’ I was like, ‘Man, I’m 100 percent with you. I understand. What can we do? Help me!” And Conley was quick to throw out a few suggestions as far as how Kanye can help him become a brighter star. Conley said that he wouldn’t mind jumping on a song with Kanye at some point in the future. It's pretty cool to hear that Kanye is so deep into the NBA that he’s even checking out Grizzlies games on the regular. That’s a sign of a true NBA fan, and it made for what was likely one of the coolest moments of Conley’s entire career. That’s the news for now, but for all the latest news on Mike Conley, subscribe to Complex News on YouTube. For Complex News, I’m TK.
