Over the years, Dirk Nowitzki has taken pay cuts to help out the Dallas Mavericks. Back in July, Business Insider reported that Nowitzki has on multiple occasions taken less money than he could have in order to help the team stay competitive. The total number? Nearly $200 million.

One fan really appreciated Dirk's financial sacrifices, so much so he sent the NBA star a thank you card and a $20 bill to buy lunch. "Thank you for 20 years of pure greatness. It's been an honor to watch you play from a kid to an adult. If this is indeed your last season thank you Dirk Nowitzki!!!!! I don't care what the critics say, your the greatest to ever play!!! Thanks Dirk!!! I think I speak on behalf of Dallas that we truly appreciate everything you done for the city," the fan wrote. They continued, "You been taking discounts the past 6 years to help the team bring talent and a title...LUNCH IS ON ME BIG FELLA!"

The German-born player took to Twitter to show his appreciation.

Dirk, who is 39 years old, has been playing with the Mavericks since 1998. It's the only team he's been on during his entire NBA career, and he has made it known that he plans to retire following this upcoming season. During his time on the Mavs, he's picked up a long list of honors, including being 2007's MVP, a 2011 Finals MVP and a 13-time All-Star.
