UFC's Dana White Has a Real Problem With "Uppity 80-Year-Old" Meryl Streep's Golden Globes Speech

Dana White responds to "uppity 80-year-old" Meryl Streep for taking a shot at the entire sport of MMA during her Golden Globes speech.

As you've no doubt heard know by now, Meryl Streep took some shots at Donald Trumpduring her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award during Sunday night’s Golden Globes. Predictably, Trump responded to it.

While knocking Trump and his thoughts on immigration, Streep also squeezed in what seemed like several condescending barbs directed at football and MMA fans. "Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners," Streep said. "And if you kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts. Which are not the arts."

Streep's dig obviously ruffled the feathers of some people within MMA community. In particular, UFC president Dana White had some words for the Oscar winner, which he shared with TMZ during a video interview on Monday.

"It's not going to be everybody's thing," White said in defense of his sport. "And the last thing I expect is an uppity 80-year-old lady to be in our demographic and love MMA."

When asked if he thought Streep cited MMA during her speech because White spoke at the Republican National Convention last summer, he said, "I don't know, maybe she did. I'm not sure."

And then, he doubled down on his "80-year-old" digβ€”Streep is only 67, for the recordβ€”again while explaining why he wouldn't expect the actress to be interested in his sport.Β "Like I said, I don't expect an 80-year-old woman to be a big fan of mixed martial arts," he said. "And listen, I'm not a big fan of golf. Doesn't mean people should stop watching it."

White also talked about why he considers MMA art, even if Streep doesn't.Β "Oh, of course it's an art," he said. "These fightersβ€”men and womenβ€”are so talented. They train their whole lives to become the best in the world...Saying something stupid like that is like saying, 'She's not a talented actress,' which she is."

And he finished by saying that the UFC is about as diverse as sports get. "She's not educated about the sport," he said, "and it was a completely uneducated comment."

White wasn't the only person in the MMA community who took umbrage with Streep's dig, either. These MMA fighters, promoters, and writers did, too:

Who knew so many MMA fans were watching the Globes?!
