On Friday afternoon, UFC president Dana White offered Floyd Mayweather $25 million—plus a portion of the pay-per-view profits—to "cut out the BS" and finally fight Conor McGregor:
Mayweather responded by calling White a "f*cking comedian," which isn't a surprise since he already said he wanted $100 million to fight McGregor.
White responded to that by saying:
"Floyd thinks he's so much bigger than Conor, he's wrong. Listen, Floyd's gone undefeated for 20 years, I give him all the credit in the world for doing that. Conor has been around for three or four years. For him to think that he's a much bigger star than Conor isn't true, and I'm not gonna pay him way more money than I'm gonna pay my guy."
Even though this is pretty much the perfect example of an impasse, don't expect this subject to go away anytime soon. Mayweather and White are both great self-promoters, and even though they don't really seem to be promoting much of anything by going back and forth, Mayweather continued their war of words on Sunday when he issued a response to White's response to his response to White's initial offer. Make sense? No? Well, here it is anyway, courtesy of Fight Hype:
"I don’t want to talk to Dana White. Remember, Dana White, he was a player, he was a boss, but he was a small boss. The big bosses were [the former UFC owners] the Fertittas. But then the Fertittas chose to sell the UFC, so Dana is just an employee. I like Dana White, I don’t have anything against him, but I can remember Dana White used to hang around me and Jeff Mayweather and carry my bags. Dana White, I remember you used to carry my bags."
Following that condescending reminder, which may or may not be true, Mayweather then pivoted and talked about the time he wore a Bullenbeiser Boxing patch to represent the apparel/equipment company White ran during his humble beginnings before he joined the UFC.
"Remember, Dana White, I showed you love, you used to have the Bullenbeisser patch I wore on my trunks for you, Dana," Mayweather continued. "I’ve always been good to you, but all of a sudden, he cut his head bald and he’s such a tough guy. He’s such a tough guy. All I’ve got to say is this—why every time Conor McGregor goes out there and fights, Dana White is still an employee but Dana White makes more money than Conor McGregor when McGregor goes out there and fights?”
That last line makes it seem like Mayweather is trying to provoke some in-fighting between White and McGregor, though it's not like McGregor's unaware of this fact.
Anyway, Conor has never exactly been shy about speaking his mind, so we guess we'll see if that bait attempt works or not in the very near future. Also, it seems like a Mayweather/McGregor fight is no closer to getting done than it was before this back-and-forth started, so you'll just have to settle for all this sh*t talking for the time being.
