Before the Lions and Vikings kicked off the first of three Thanksgiving NFL games, Aretha Franklin took quite awhile to belt out the National Anthem. It was long. Even by the standards of singers really milking it. To put it in perspective, the average Super Bowl anthem is about two minutes. This one was more than twice that. In fact, it seems like this whole performance was a pretty good metaphor for how long we've spent this season talking about anthems. It's a surprise everyone wasn't down on a knee by the end.
Now work may take a day off, for most people anyway *cough, cough* but snarky Twitter never does. And because of that it should be no shock that the social media hordes took notice of Franklin's nearly five-minute performance, and delivered with a set of 140 character or less jabs that were in short supply of any r-e-s-p-e-c-t:
Kinda with Twitter on this one.
