A verdict has been reached in the Derrick Rose rape trial. Following less than four hours of deliberations on Wednesday, a jury in the case cleared Rose and his two codefendants, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen, of all charges.
Rose released a statement to the Associated Press following the verdict and thanked the jury:
"I am thankful that the jury understood and agreed with me," the statement said. "This experience and my sensitivity to it was deep. I am ready to put this behind me and focus on my family and career."
But he didn't say much else:
He did, however, pose for photos with several "giddy jurors," which obviously isn't sitting well with a lot of people:
Rose's lawyer Mark Baute spoke outside the courtroom and blasted the media coverage surrounding the trial:
Michael Monico, an attorney for Rose's two friends, spoke as well and had some strong words for the plaintiff:
There's a chance an appeal could be coming soon, though. The plaintiff chose not to speak with reporters outside of the courthouse, but her lawyer Waukeen McCoy suggested an appeal might take place:
The accuser, identified in court as Jane Doe, claimed Rose, Hampton, and Allen gang raped her in August 2013. She filed a $21.5 million civil lawsuit against Rose in August 2015.
