Pro wrestler Alberto Del Rio—who was released by the WWE in September just weeks after being suspended for violating the organization's Wellness Policy—claims a man with a knife attacked him outside of a restaurant at an airport over the weekend. Del Rio was slated to appear at Lucha Libre AAA's Heroes Immortales X PPV in Monterrey, Mexico on Sunday, but in a statement posted on Instagram on Monday night, he said that the attack left him unable to attend the event since he missed a flight he was scheduled to take due to the alleged incident. He vowed to return to the ring very soon:

And lest you think this is part of an elaborate plot to drum up interest in Del Rio's career, he also shared some pretty graphic photos that show the stab wounds he sustained during the alleged attack:

Lucha Libre AAA released a harsh statement on Sunday after Del Rio missed their PPV event:

"Alberto "El Patron" was not present for Heroes Inmortales X, which took place today.  This, despite having confirmed his presence in advance and even this morning. We regret the lack of commitment of Alberto, as he disrespected the Mexican public that has supported him throughout his career."

But they have not reacted to the statement Del Rio put out yet. TMZ Sports is reporting that no arrests have been made yet in the alleged attack.
