High school quarterbacks don’t exactly have the best reputations in the world. Yes, they’re usually one of the coolest guys in their respective schools, but if you’ve ever watched a movie that features a bunch of teenagers, high school QBs are typically portrayed as being jerks. Max Akin is not one of those guys.

Akin may be the star quarterback at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Worth, Texas, but at halftime of a game last week, he proved he’s more than just a jock. Akin and his friend K.L. Norwood—who has cerebral palsy and is the team manager for Fossil Ridge—were both up for the homecoming crown. And while Akin eventually won the award, he turned right around and handed it off to Norwood. Students from the school immediately posted photos of Akin giving Norwood the crown, and during an interview with local TV station WFAA, Akin explained why he did it.

"I think it’s should’ve gone to the person who positively uplifts the school and everybody around him," Akin said, "and that person is K.L., for sure."

Norwood appreciated the gesture, but it sounds like Akin got the most out of the heartwarming moment. "I thought it was the best hearing them chant K.L.’s name right after halftime," he said, "and I know he liked that, too. Everybody was going wild for him. Everybody loves K.L. at this school."

Maybe star QBs aren’t such bad guys after all.
