Steph Curry is standing behind Colin Kaepernick's decision to sit during the playing the national anthem. In an interview with CNBC's Sara Eisen, Curry applauded Kaepernick for exercising his freedom of speech while remaining hopefully optimistic that the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's actions will "drive the conversation to bettering the equal rights and treatment of African Americans and people of color."

Per the San Francisco Chronicle

“I love that there’s freedom of speech and he can stand up for what he believes in,” Curry said in an interview with CNBC’s Sara Eisen. “There’s going to be people that disagree with him and there’s going to be people that agree with him, which is what I think our country stands for, which hopefully will drive the conversation to bettering the equal rights and treatment of African Americans and people of color.

As Curry indicates, what tends to get lost in the shuffle when talking about Kaepernick's protest is the reasoning behind his actions. Hopefully Curry's remarks can help direct the debate back to that, rather than focusing on tangential issues. As Steph points out, the conversation has started. We must continue pressing forward.
