Team USA is staying on a luxury cruise ship during the Olympics, which seems awesome for everyone involved except Jimmy Butler. The Bulls guard is terrified of water, according to SI.com.
Funniest thing that's happened on the Team USA cruise ship? Several players say Jimmy Butler is afraid of water. #Rio2016
Butler even requested a room that doesn’t face the water. He’s not messing around with it at all.
“(Butler) don’t want to be near the water,” Draymond Green said. “He doesn’t want his room facing the water. Nothing. It’s incredible to me.”
DeAndre Jordan learned quickly this was no laughing matter with Butler.
“Jimmy Butler doesn’t like water,” Jordan said. “So we were talking about, ‘Would you jump off the boat or would you get in?’ ‘No and don’t play with me about it.’ He definitely does not like the water at all.”
Poor Jimmy. One would guess he’d rather be staying in the Olympic Village.
We all have our fears. Zach Randolph is scared of cats. Former first-round pick Royce White got a lot of pre-draft attention for his fear of flying. It just happens that Butler is afraid of water, and now he has to stay on a boat.
Let’s hope he gets more comfortable as the trip goes on. The real (non-exhibition) USA Basketball Olympic action starts Saturday at 7 p.m. ET vs. China.
