For whatever reason, nothing gets the internet riled up quite like stories about Russell Wilson interacting with Ciara and Future’s 2-year-old son. Whether Baby Future is hugging Wilson at a Seahawks practice or calling him "Papa" on the set of Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards, Twitter explodes every time Wilson and the child are pictured together, even though it shouldn’t really be that big of a deal since Wilson and Ciara are married now. The Undefeated actually took a good, hard look at why Wilson’s relationship with Baby Future gets people so worked up on Tuesday:
On Tuesday night, Wilson spoke briefly about what it’s been like for him to be a stepdad so far during an event for his Why Not You? Foundation. Wilson has used social media before to speak about how important Baby Future is to him:
But this was one of the first times Wilson spoke about it IRL. You can watch a clip of him talking about being a stepdad to Ciara and Future’s son here:
Here’s what Wilson says in the clip:
[Ciara] has been an inspiration since day one, and her little one, too, just watching him. You know, it’s interesting. I was saying to somebody the other day—this is a little bit personal, but I think it’s important—but, you know, I was saying to somebody the other day that being a stepfather is one of the most loving things you can do. You know, you really, really learn how to love love. Because especially when it’s not yours, you know, you realize that every kid matters in this world. You know, every person matters. Every child matters. Every heart matters. Every soul matters. Every mind matters. And that’s why we’re here honestly, just for situations like that. That’s what I think about. When I see her little son every time I’m around her and when I’m not around her, I always think about them, too, so they’re an inspiration.
We know the internet will probably find a way to twist and turn this into something different than what it really is. But how can anyone possibly get worked up about that?
