Marcus Rashford's breakthrough year at Manchester United has been such an incredible story that EA Sports have basically made a whole new game mode out of it – at least that's what it sounds like.

In FIFA 17's flagship new feature 'The Journey', gamers will guide teenage prospect Alex Hunter through his debut Premier League season. The new game mode takes FIFA 17 away from the pitch for the first time ever, as you explore Hunter's life off the pitch and control the decisions he makes as he looks to take his career to the next level.

Early footage released from EA Sports shows Alex Hunter as a confident striker at Manchester United who scores a goal on his debut – he also strikes a strong resemblance to United and England striker, Marcus Rashford.

Talking to EA Sports, Rashford admitted that elements of 'The Journey' are remarkably similar to his own Premier League story:

"I actually can’t believe how accurate it is, watching Alex, it reminds me of my journey. It definitely reminds me of my experience, when you see Alex go into the manager’s office you don’t know what he’s going to say or what it’s going to be like, so it brings back memories.

EA Sports worked with Premier League players to produce 'The Journey'.

The similarity shouldn't really be too surprising. As EA Sports seeked to produce a new story mode that felt legitimate, the studio worked with Premier League players like Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane and Dele Alli to work on the narrative.
