It's been one week since Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and the Cleveland Cavaliers stunned us all coming back from the improbable 3-1 series deficit to win the NBA title. Now Kyrie isn't planning on taking time off for the summer because he's going for even more gold beyond the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
ESPN sources say Kyrie Irving has accepted an invitation from USA Basketball to play on this summer's Olympic team— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) June 25, 2016
Uncle Drew has accepted one of the final two available roster invitations to play for the USA men's basketball team in Rio de Janiero this August. The other spot was ultimately filled his NBA Finals opponent, Warriors forward Harrison Barnes.
Irving informed the NBA on Saturday that he would be on a plane joining the team. According to ESPN and multiple reports, the 12-man roster to be revealed on Monday afternoon, boasts guards Irving, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson, Kyle Lowry, and DeMar DeRozan, forwards Carmelo Anthony, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Harrison Barnes, and centers DeAndre Jordan and DeMarcus Cousins.
Irving's history with Team USA continues upon his MVP honors won at the 2014 Basketball World Cup.
