Floyd Mayweather’s Company Files for Trademarks That Could Indicate His Desire to Fight Again

If Floyd Mayweather is really retired, then why did he file these two trademarks?

Floyd Mayweather is retired. For good. At least, that’s the story that he has been trying to sell everyone for the last six months. Even though he claims that he has been offered “nine figures” to fight again, he’s also said that he’s more than happy to sit back and collect $1 million every month for doing absolutely nothing.

But over the weekend, Mayweather provided everyone with a tiny hint about the possibility of him making a comeback. During an interview with Jim Gray on Saturday night, he revealed that he has “been talking with CBS and Showtime” about the idea of fighting again, and he also refused to rule out him taking part in the 50th fight of his career.

“You never know,” he said.

Yesterday, ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell also uncovered two trademarks that Mayweather’s company Mayweather Promotions filed for recently that seem to indicate that Mayweather is going to fight again. Accordingly to records posted on the U.S. Patent & Trademark site, Mayweather Promotions recently filed for trademarks for “TMT 50” and “TBE 50.”

It’s worth noting that Mayweather Promotions has filed for more than 140 trademarks in the past and has been granted 35 of them, so maybe someone on Mayweather’s team is simply doing their due diligence here, just in case Mayweather decides to fight again. But between the trademarks and the comments Mayweather made over the weekend, it’s getting harder and harder to believe that Mayweather is truly retired for good.
