NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell got poked with another thorn in his side today, adding to the public relations nightmare from CTE brain trauma being linked to the dangers of playing football. This time, the sting came from a statement by one of his league's franchise executives.

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley went on WGR 550AM sports talk radio show Tuesday morning to discuss Bills receiver Sam Whaley's injuries last season and how they impacted the team's play. The Bills executive even went the distance to talk about the severity of injuries in general and how "violent" football is. The conversation took an unexpected turn—and virtually bit the hand that pays his salary—with a discussion on how football is a game he believes humans shouldn't play.

"This is the game of football," Whaley stated. "Injuries are part of it. It's a violent game that I personally don't think humans are supposed to play."

Well, if the 90 players on the Bills team roster are, er, human, what species should play for his franchise? Your guess is as good as mine for any given Sunday. Although animals have not been the focal point of CTE studies, let's not expect real buffaloes to go head-to-head with actual rams on the gridiron October 9 at the new Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
