Ohio State Football Team Spring Game Draws Over 100,000 Fans, Breaks Their Own Attendance Record

Power in numbers for Buckeyes fans, even when it doesn't count for anything.

If you know anyone who is an Ohio State fan, or from the state of Ohio, you know they are straight nuts when it comes to supporting their Buckeyes football team.

Today was a vindication of that when the eight-time national champion took the field today in their Columbus-based Horseshoe to play their annual Spring Game scrimmage, which packed in an astounding 100,189 fans. This topped the 99,391 in attendance from a year ago.

Again, this is for their springtime scrimmage, in which the team matches up against themselves, Scarlet versus Grey, the school's colors. This doesn't count for anything towards a preseason national ranking. It's essentially a mere pickup game of football, or a full-contact practice session in April.

But don't dare tell that to an Ohio State fan. It apparently runs much deeper than that to them.

This was all a part of head coach Urban Meyer's plan to break last year's attendance record. And he thanked his 400,000-plus followers on Twitter—mostly Buckeye fans, of course—about reaching the new record for the Spring Game.
