If the Villanova Wildcats were going to defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels, the 'Cats needed to put together a performance similar to their 95-61 victory over Oklahoma in the Final Four where they shot 71.4 percent from the floor as a team. When it was all said and done, Villanova was once again efficient from the field, shooting 58.3 percent.

After taking a 10-point lead with 5:29 remaining, 'Nova seemed to have all the momentum, but the Tar Heels remained resilient, slowly chipping away at the deficit. Following two clutch free throws by the Wildcats' Josh Hart with 13 seconds left, North Carolina pushed the ball up the court and into the hands of Marcus Paige, who tied it up at 74 with an improbable double-clutch three-pointer.

After a Villanova timeout, Ryan Arcidiacono took the inbound pass and tossed it back to Kris Jenkins for the game-winning shot.

For the first time since 1985, the Wildcats are national champions.
