From 1990 through 1998, Derek Loville was a running back in the NFL. He suited up for the Seahawks, 49ers, and Broncos and won three Super Bowls during his time in the league. But according to reports, Loville, now 47, spent his recent years facilitating large drug deals in Arizona and played a part in a huge international drug trafficking ring that also specialized in sports gambling and money laundering.
Loville and 21 other people were charged with a range of crimes on Thursday due to their affiliation with the ring, which was reportedly run by former USC football player Owen “O-Dog” Hanson, a 33-year-old who was arrested back in September. The New York Post is reporting that the ring—which was called “ODOG”—was exposed by an informant named “Robin Hood 702” who worked closely with the FBI to help bring it down. Robin Hood 702 told the FBI—and the Post—that the ring frequently used some really intense “scare tactics” to force debtors to pay back money. He talked about one specific incident in which the ring sent him a video of two men being beheaded to intimidate him. He also claimed Hanson once sent him a photo of him desecrating his mother’s grave.
