President Obama Compares Himself to Aaron Rodgers (Even Though He's a Bears Fan!)

Not the Aaron Rodgers we’ve seen the last few weeks obviously.

Earlier today, GQunveiled the cover of their latest Men of the Year issue, and it features President Obama on the front of it. It also includes a Q&A that the President did with Bill Simmons inside with the two discussing everything from Grantland to Game of Thrones to aliens. You can read the whole thing here.

One thing that caught our attention—outside of the fact that Simmons did the interview, obviously—was that, at one point, Simmons tried to compare President Obama to Gregg Popovich. And while the President didn’t completely dismiss that comparison, he likes to compare himself to a different sports figure. Given his ability to work his way through tough situations without getting distracted, the President believes he’s a little bit like Aaron Rodgers.

“[Aaron] Rodgers in the pocket, in the sense of you can’t be distracted by what’s around you, you’ve got to be looking downfield,” he said. “And I think that’s a quality that I have—not getting flustered in what’s around me.”

It’s been a rough last month for Rodgers. The Packers have lost three straight games, including a home game to the Lions (ugh!) on Sunday, and Rodgers hasn’t really looked good in any of them. But having the President—who is a diehard Bears fan, btw—compare himself to you has to be pretty damn cool.

We’d expect Rodgers to have a reaction to this. We’ll be sure to let you know what he has to say about it.
