Some unfortunate news for Jarryd Hayne fans the country of Australia, as the San Francisco 49ers have this morning announced Jarryd Hayne has been waived.
The move comes as something of a surprise as the Niners running back Carlos Hyde was recently injured, leading many to speculate Hayne's game time would increase. Instead, the team have decided to activate Kendall Gaskins and cut ties with the former Parramatta Eel.
Hayne's time with the 49ers began with a promising pre-season, but the regular season saw errors and mis-reads creep into his game. He averaged 9.5 yards on eight punt returns, and also registered 37 rushing yards in an exciting play against the Cardinals in Week 3.
Speculation will kick into overdrive as to where Hayne will end up. The NRL will move mountains to see the talented fullback return to the local league, but others will remember Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll speaking highly of Hayne only a week ago.
"We thought he could really be a highlighted player," Carroll said before the Seahawks took on the 49ers. "We had a lot of thoughts about how we were going to use him." Time will tell if the former USC mastermind was being sincere or simply playing mindgames with 49ers coach Jim Tomsula before the two teams clashed in Week 7.
