We ideally should've been reading about Michael Sam playing at least one NFL regular season game by now. However, that hasn't happened. His inspiration story as the NFL's first openly gay player ended with him being cut by the Rams. After spending time on the Cowboys practice team, Sam signed on to roll with the Montreal Alouettes. However, he left the team in June for personal reasons.

The story didn't get much better two months later. Sam announced that he's quit the Alouettes to focus on his mental health

The last 12 months have been very difficult for me, to the point where I became concerned with my mental health. Because of this I am 1/3
going to step away from the game at this time. I thank the Alouettes for this opportunity and hope to be back on the field soon. Thank 2/3
you all for your understanding and support. 3/3

This could very well be it for Sam. Hopefully it isn't, but regardless, health comes first.
