Cristiano Ronaldo's opening goal in Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Liverpool has been crowned the best goal of the Champions League season.

The goal was a sweet half volley after a perfect chip over the Liverpool defence from James Rodriguez. It was so good that even some of Liverpool's home fans applauded the strike.

Every other goal in the top 5 was scored by Barcelona.

The other four goals that made it into the top 5 were all scored by Barcelona players. Ivan Rakitic came second and fifth (for his goal against Juventus in the final, and against Manchester City in the last 16 respectively), Messi's humiliation of Jerome Boateng earned him third place and Luis Suarez got fourth for his strike against PSG.

Ronaldo will be pretty pleased to have beaten Barcelona's attacking hordes in this competition, but it probably won't make up for them winning the rest of them.
