Paul Pierce May Have Walked Off the Court For the Final Time Yesterday

Yesterday Paul Pierce appeared to hit an off-balance, buzzer beating, game-tying three to give the Wizards a snowball's chance in overtime to force a Game Seven. Unfortunately (for Washington and their fans) we live in a technological age that can pinpoint to the tenth of a second whether or not a shooter got his shot off. That reality really boned the Wizards last night...:

...with the resulting reaction captured above and (complete with a solid pun) plastered onto the front of the Washington Post's sports section.

That alone was a pretty big bummer.

But inside Pierce also acknowledged the realities of being a baller who will turn 38 before the 2015-16 season tips off, saying about a potential retirement:

"Truthfully, what was going through my mind is, I don’t have too much of these efforts left, if any. These rides throughout the NBA season, throughout the playoffs, are very emotional. They take a lot out of not only your body, but your mind, your spirit.”

Later he summed it up:

"I don’t even know if I’m going to play basketball anymore."

Every old timer says something to that effect after every season when they reach the twilight of their careers. Only time/the offseason will tell if this is the last image of Pierce captured on an NBA court. If that's the case then it's pretty sad funny dependent upon whatever you think of him.
