Back in 2012, the Patriots gave Aaron Hernandez a five-year, $40 million contract extension that included a $12.5 million signing bonus. Today, Hernandez's lawyers say that all the money he made over the course of his NFL career is just about gone.

During a court appearance in New Bedford, Mass. on Thursday, Hernandez's lawyer John Fitzpatrick revealed that Hernandez is extremely low on cash right now because of all the legal fees associated with his recent trial as well as the other court cases that he's involved with. Between paying his attorneys and supporting his fiancée Shayanna Jenkins and the couple's 2-year-old daughter, Fitzpatrick claims Hernandez is almost out of money.

"Despite some pretty wild and baseless speculative allegations made about piles of money, there are no piles of money," Fitzpatrick told a judge.

So Hernandez doesn't have any money or any freedom right now? At least he's got that new neck tattoo to fall back on.
