Remember the time CM Punk played Shawne Merriman out on Twitter? Uh, yeah, us either. But the former WWE wrestler did it—and Merriman hasn't forgotten about it.
A quick refresher: In February 2011, Punk spotted Merriman talking to a few female WWE wrestlers outside of a hotel and made a joke about it on Twitter:
Merriman saw Punk's tweet and responded to it with this:
And Punk, not content to just let it go, hit him back with this:
It was innocent enough and shouldn't have been a big deal. But during an interview with FOX Sports today, Merriman said that he'd love to fight Punk and he referred to their back-and-forth Twitter beef in 2011 as the reason for his anger towards the UFC fighter.
"We have a little beef," he said. "We had a little history. I was talking to a friend Eve [Torres] who I met who is a commentator/broadcaster for WWE. I said, 'Hey, how you guys doing?'…I saw her at the hotel…We had a good conversation, she walked off, and next thing I know, this guy [CM Punk] goes out and puts on Twitter…that I got dissed by one of the WWE women…This is coming from a guy who was wearing a small Speedo/thong next to the pool."
The words "little beef" have never been more appropriate. We get why Merriman was angry in 2011. But that was four years ago, dude. Time to let this go.
