A little more than two years ago, former NBA player Javaris Crittenton—who is best known for getting suspended after bringing a gun into the Wizards locker room during a confrontation with teammate Gilbert Arenas in 2010—was indicted on murder charges. He was accused of murdering a 22-year-old mother of four named Julian Jones in 2011 after he spotted her walking with a man who had allegedly robbed him.

Today, Crittenton accepted a plea deal in his murder case. He pleaded guilty to murdering Jones and was sentenced to 23 years in prison as part of the deal. Additionally, Crittenton apologized to Jones' family in court and said that he wishes he could trade places with the woman. He also referred to her murder as an accident.

Crittenton was selected in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the Lakers and spent more than a season in Los Angeles before being dealt to the Grizzlies as part of a trade for Pau Gasol. He also played for the Wizards and Bobcats before spending time in the Chinese Basketball Association and the NBA's D-League. He will begin serving his 23-year prison sentence immediately.
