A few short weeks after the Carolina Panthers released defensive end Greg Hardy, the Dallas Cowboys came along and scooped him up for an incentive-laden deal worth up to $13 million.
Hardy hasn't played since his 15-sack season in 2013. He was arrested last May after allegedly beating and threatening to murder his ex-girlfriend, and hasn't sniffed an NFL field since being placed on the commissioner's exempt list in September 2014. Charges were eventually dropped against Hardy after his ex-girlfriend went off the grid, but he has yet to be reinstated by Roger Goodell.
The Cowboys sure hope Goodell puts their man back on the field soon, and for that, Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen is seriously pissed. "And now you can beat a woman and play with a star on your helmet," he proclaimed on live television last night.
Hansen, nationally known for his morality after ripping the NFL last season over Michael Sam, laid into Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Jason Garrett, and team VP Charlotte Jones Anderson for signing Hardy. On a segment of "Hansen Unplugged" on ABC's local Dallas affiliate, he questioned how far the Cowboys were willing to forgive bad people for doing bad things because of their football ability. "Is there no line you won't cross? Is there no crime you won't accept?" he pleaded. "Is there no behavior you will not tolerate?"
The meat of Hanson's knockout cut was killer:
"Greg Hardy's jersey is being sold at the Cowboys online pro shop now. You could get one for your sister or daughter and then explain to her that Hardy beats up women, but we're cheering him now because he's really good on game day, and game day is all that really matters to me
Your daughter will understand.
But the reality is, if Hardy knocks on your front door to take your daughter out for a night on the town, the man you cheer now you would shoot his ass thru the glass."
