Wax museums are weird places. The whole concept boils down to our obsession with one another: People pay real money to observe life-sized replicas of other people. As places of celebrity and historical worship, they're ego-massaging dens of narcissism and and self-importance. Perhaps that's why Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo takes such a vested interest in wax representations of himself. At the Museo de Cera in Madrid, Ronaldo has his personal hair stylist visit fake Ronaldo. You know, just to brush off the dust collecting on the waxed footballer.

This isn't the first time Ronaldo's paid special attention to his international self-image. Last December, a statue featuring Ronaldo with an erection popped up in his native Portugal. At the release of his signature underpants, a 62-foot tall soft porn photo of himself was draped over a building.

Museo de Cera's wax statue of Ronaldo has been in place in 2013, and remains one of its most popular attractions. Mueseum staff can expect a visit from Ronaldo's stylist once a month to brush and do-up the statue's hair, which is, in fact, real human hair. "Cristiano told us to be sure his figure was perfect," said Gonzalo Presa, the museum's communication director. Fake Ronaldo gets special fake person treatment too: "Cristiano's (the waxwork's) hair is natural. It is not a wig and it comes from India," added Presa.

Real Ronaldo just can't get enough of himself. It's remarkable that vanity hasn't melted the statue yet.
