At the age of nine, Steven Gerrard joined the Liverpool Academy to start a long, prosperous, mutually beneficial relationship. By 1998 he made his first of approximately 500 appearances with the senior club.

Now, after a tenure that lasted a quarter of a century, Liverpool's captain is set to end his reign (reportedly at the end of the season) and set sail for (one of) the little brother(s) of the Premier League, the MLS. This according to both Liverpool reporter James Pearce, and futbol writer Tony Barrett.
