Iran's Footballers Have Been Banned from Taking Selfies with Female Fans

Female fans are unable to attend sporting events in Iran due to gender segregation.

Players representing Iran at the Asian Cup have been banned from posing for selfies with female fans.

The Iran football team are currently playing in the Asian Cup, which is being held in Austalia. Thousands of Iranian expatriates live Down Under, which has seen a flood of female fans attend Iran's matches.

Female fans are unable to attend sporting events in Iran due to gender segregation.

Government officials in Iran have been alarmed by images showing the country's footballers posing for shots with Iranian women who they believe to be "dressed inappropriately". Footage of female fans has even been edited out of Iran's television coverage of the Asian Cup.

The head of Iran's football federation has said posing players will be 'dealt with'.

Ali Akbar Mohamedzade said:


"Players are not allowed to pose for selfies with female fans. They (the women) may later use these photos for political ransom against our country or sue the players for harassment.


If the players refuse to act according to our clear instructions then we will be left with no option but to deal with them."
