Dion Waiters Says the Thunder Didn't Want Him to Wear James Harden's Old Number

After some resistance, Dion Waiters will wear No. 23 as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Sacramento Kings tonight at the Sleep Train Arena, Dion Waiters will make his debut in a brand new number. But it didn't come without some resistance. Since Perry Jones already rocks his usual No. 3, Waiters needed to take another number.

What about No. 1? Unfortunately, that number is retired, in honor of former Seattle SuperSonics guard Gus Williams. Since his top two choices were unavailable, Waiters went with No. 13, but once again, he hit another problem. "(The Thunder) didn’t want me to wear (number) 13. I guess they wanted me to have my own identity," Waiters said. "We’re going to make 23 look good, though.”

Waiters should be just fine having his own identity in No. 23 because no one has ever made that number famou...oh wait! Yeah, yeah, you'll be just fine, Dion.
