For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. And for every major story in sports, there is sure to be a #HOTTAKE to go along with it. A lot of things happened in the wide world of sports this year, and—predictably—there were a lot of extremely dumb comments about those things. In a media climate where everyone is trying to make a headline, some sports figures will say just about anything to ensure that their name ends up on the Internets. Even at the risk of severely damaging careers, #HOTTAKES continued to run rampant in 2014. From calling people in Ferguson "scumbags" to declaring the New England Patriots "not good anymore," here are The 10 Worst Sports #Hottakes of 2014.

Tony Grossi Loves Him Some Brian Hoyer

To be fair, covering the Cleveland Browns for over 30 years can turn any sane person into a dribbling pool of nonsense, but this tweet from Browns beat writer Tony Grossi is so full of defiance and a “those damn kids!” sentiment that you can feel the out-of-touchness through the internet.

A week after Browns starting quarterback Brian Hoyer was benched in the fourth quarter for the Young Gawd Johnny Manziel, Cleveland sports talk radio was rife with talk of who should start next week. Grossi, who probably doesn’t have electricity and strictly watches Sanford & Son reruns, was firmly on #TeamHoyer, so when Browns head coach Mike Pettine named him the starter for the following week against Indianapolis, Grossi puffed his chest out.

“Mike Pettine’s decision on Brian Hoyer is a triumph of common sense over analytics!” Grossi cried from 1950. Look, we get it. Math is hard. It’s much easier to look at Hoyer and his smooth balding head and proclaim that he’s got the “it” factor, even as his percentage completion plummeted toward 50 percent. Hoyer played another awful game against Indy, and was finally benched for good the following week. No word on Grossi’s thoughts there, since he’s probably busy studying.

Doug Gottlieb Shames Kobe Bryant for Wearing "I Can’t Breathe" Shirt

Former ESPN college basketball analyst and current CBS Sports utility man Doug Gottlieb just looks like a man ready to unleash hot takes on unsuspecting victims, but he really hopped in the sauna with his tweet about Kobe Bryant wearing an “I Can’t Breathe” shirt during warm-ups in support of Eric Garner.

Sorry, Doug. We weren’t aware that chilling in the upper tax bracket precludes you from speaking out on social issues. This isn’t the first time Doug has said something uncomfortable that directly involves race. You may remember his “I’m just here to bring the white man’s perspective” comment he made when he appeared in studio alongside four black analysts during an NCAA tournament broadcast *loosens tie*.  Maybe you should take a break from speaking, Tweeting, and everything else for a little while, Douggie.
