That sure didn't take long. A week after Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon broke the 15 year old FBS rushing record by collecting 408 yards on the ground, Oklahoma's Samaje Perine went for 427 against Kansas.
Perine had eight runs of 20 yards or more, including the above 42-yarder that broke the record, and bested Gordon in the touchdown category as well, breaking the plane five times. Oh, and he also led the team in receiving, though he had just one catch for 19 yards.
And while 427 yards on the ground is an insane number, Kansas didn't appear to have much interest in tackling, or in playing football in general. Nevertheless, Perine and Gordon are attempting to reverse the idea of the devalued running back that is so prominent in the NFL.
