Today, Michael Sam was released from the Dallas Cowboys, ending his tenure in Arlington, TX without ever having appeared in a game. According to the team, the move was made in order to clear space for Troy Davis, a second-year linebacker from the University of Central Florida.

After spending the offseason with the St. Louis Rams, Sam was cut by the organization, and then signed shortly thereafter by Dallas. Unfortunately, the former SEC Defensive Player of the Year still has yet to play in his first NFL game. Sam, however, refuses to hang his head about the lack of playing time.

I want to thank the Jones family and the entire Cowboys organization for this opportunity, as well as my friends, family, teammates, (1/3)

We wish Sam the best of luck, wherever and whenever he is able to continue his pro football career. Could the Canadian Football League be Sam's next move? Unless another NFL team is in need of a rookie defensive end, then Sam's best chance to earn some playing experience may be found up north.
