His Job Before Going Pro: Stocking shelves at a supermarket

Prior to catching on in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams in 1998, the former Northern Iowa quarterback was invited to several training camps. But for the most part, he spent his time working at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, making just $5.50 an hour. It didn’t deter him from trying to carve out an NFL career, though, and eventually he was able to work his way in to the Rams’ starting lineup and win a Super Bowl. He made four Pro Bowls during his career, and will likely be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible for it next year.
