This is the season when the Premier League cracks down on illegal streaming.

Police in Manchester have shut down a streaming "nerve centre", which was home to 12 servers broadcasting live matches to tens of thousands of users from across the world.

They said that the arrest of the 27-year-old man in charge was their "biggest yet" in the hunt to stop Premier League streaming. Up to a dozen servers have been seized and will now be examined for evidence.

Between them, BT Sport and Sky Sports spends over £1bn per season to broadcast Premier League matches in the UK and it's estimated that illegal streaming costs broadcasters around £10m each season.

The raid was conducted by the £1.2m-a-year PIPCU, a force set up last year to crack down on online copyright infringement, including the streaming of subscription television services and illegal sharing of music, films and television shows.

Last month, Premier League chiefs announced that they'd be setting their sights on social media users this season and punishing those who publish GIFs or Vines of matches.
