Last month, we learned about Bengals defensive lineman Devon Still and his four-year-old daughter, Leah, who’s suffering from pediatric cancer. Following that news, it was made public that Still, who was a member of Cincinnati’s practice squad before being activated to the 53-man roster before their Week 2 game against Atlanta, was predominantly given a roster spot so that he could continue to be afforded the health care coverage his daughter needs to combat cancer. You know, because sometimes people do the right thing. We’re looking at you, Bengals front office.
After Still was promoted to the active roster, his jersey sales-of which all proceeds will go to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital & Pediatric Cancer Care-set a single-day record with over 1,000 units sold on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Saints head coach Sean Payton was responsible for 100 of those jerseys, and the NFL had a shining moment for once, in a recent period of dark clouds.
Today, Still reminded us how real Leah’s situation is by posting an Instagram video of a pre-surgery pep talk he gave his daughter on the way to the hospital. Grab a box of tissues, watch the clip above, and remember that life should never be taken for granted.
