The Washington Post Is Not Going to Use the Word "Redskins" Anymore

How much longer is it going to be until the Redskins are forced to change their team name?

For more than two decades now, the Washington Post has been critical of the Washington Redskins for using the team name "Redskins." Back in the early 1990s, they referred to the team name as "pretty offensive" and have urged the team's ownership to change it over the years—to no avail. So now, the Washington Post is trying a different tactic. They're going to stop using the word "Redskins" in an effort to encourage others to do the same.

The newspaper made the announcement earlier today in an editorial piece written by their Editorial Board. You can read the entire thing here. But the point of the piece is to announce that the Washington Post will no longer be using the word "Redskins." And they're hoping that other people—and maybe even Daniel Snyder and the Redskins themselves—will stop using it sometime soon, too.

"Every time the R-word is used, something disrespectful is happening," the piece says. "We hope Mr. Snyder and the NFL will acknowledge that truth sooner than later. In the meantime, we'll do our best not to contribute to the disrespect."

This could end up being a really big deal if others follow suit. So do you agree with what the Washington Post is doing here?
