Will he or won't he be traded? That's the question that has surrounded Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester for the better part of the last week. And a short time ago, we got our answer—Lester will be traded before today's MLB trade deadline.
However, Boston didn't agree to trade Lester away for a bunch of prospects like some MLB analysts thought they might do. Instead, they reached a deal with the Athletics that will send Lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes to Oakland in exchange for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.
The deal is being viewed as a sign that the A's are going all-in for a World Series win this season, even if the trade hurts their organization in the long run since Lester will be a free agent at the end of the year:
