FIFA is being pressured to penalize World Cup teams based on the behavior of their fan bases. The Fare network, which is an organization that combats discrimination, contacted FIFA about alleged homophobic chants that occurred during Mexico’s game against Brazil earlier this week. The complaint states that Mexico’s supporters collectively shouted a slur at the Brazilian goalkeeper.

The controversy is over the use of the “punto,” which—when translated—means man whore. The Fare also reported Russia and Croatia for the use of racist banners. The Telegraph reports that—as repeat offenders—both countries face the possibility of point deductions (read: this is no slap on the wrist).
