Have you started paying attention to the 2014 French Open yet? If not, we've got some bad news for you.

Earlier today, Serena andVenus Williams were both defeated in the second round of the major tournament, meaning U.S. interest in the women's side of the French Open is going to be pretty low moving forward. Serena lost to Garbine Muguruza of Spain 6-2, 6-2, while Venus lost to Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. And to make matters even worse, the Williams sisters would have played against one another in the third round of the tournament had they both won today, which obviously would have been a very intriguing matchup.

What a disappointing way to start and finish the French Open for the sisters.
