Civil liberties just took a serious blow in the Quaker State. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled cops no longer need a search warrant to search vehicles. The probable cause requirement is "a strong and sufficient safeguard against illegal searches,” Justice Seamus McCaffery said.
Of course, defense attorneys and civil liberty groups aren't happy.
"I think getting a warrant is significant because it is one more deterrent against bad police behavior," Reggie Shuford, executive director of the Pennsylvania ACLU, said. "There was really no reason for the court to overturn the law. We have a long history of strong protections for individual rights in Pennsylvania.”
Not anymore.
