If your day was filled with gloom (or snow in Colorado), this should brighten up your Monday. The California Highway Patrol rescued an adorable Chihuahua Friday on Interstate Highway 680 in Walnut Creek.

The poor thing was perched on the highway's concrete center divider when police arrived. A CHP spokesman said officers received a calls saying a dog was running around on the highway. Now the dog has been brought to animal shelter and is the subject of many adoption requests.

In a great PR move, Contra Costa CHP posted a photo of the Chihuahua and its cop savior to Twitter. Thanks to its aww power, it was retweeted nearly 1,000 times.

The NYPD should take note: This is how you do social media.
