Remember when guys used to ask girls to the prom by calling them on the phone or—gasp—walking up to them nervously and popping the question? Well, while we're sure that there are still some guys who do that, many of them have started going to extreme lengths to try and score a prom date. And recently, a Duxbury, Mass. teen went above and beyond to ask one of his friends to accompany him to their prom.

Shortly after Duxbury High School senior Charlie Murphy decided to ask his friend Megan Zaverucha to their senior prom, he also decided that he wanted to do something extravagant to ask her. So he enlisted some help from the Duxury Police Department, who agreed to pull Megan over last Wednesday night so that he could ask her to the prom. And as you might imagine, that scared the life out of Megan, who was a nervous wreck when a cop put his lights on and pulled her to the side of the road.

"I saw the lights go off and I just started freaking out," she said later. "I was like, Oh my gosh, oh my gosh."

Fortunately, that feeling didn't last long. The cop who pulled her over approached the car, told her that she had a headlight out and that she had driven over the center line on the road, and asked her to get out of the car and step to the rear of the vehicle. And when she did, Charlie was standing there and asked her to prom. She said yes.

"I had no idea," she said. "I was completely shocked."

We're sure she was. And we're also sure that Charlie had the best intentions here. But isn't this a little too extreme? We understand that he wanted to make his "promposal" (apparently that's what the kids are calling these things these days?) special and we also understand that he was trying to win a contest that his school is holding that will reward two lucky students who have the best "promposal" story with free tickets to the prom. But still, this particular proposal could have gone terribly wrong or Megan could have said no because of how Charlie went about asking her. So we hope that we don't hear about anyone else trying it.
