If you grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, chances are you’ve owned, been in, or have some favorable memory of the Ford Escort – they were everywhere. Sadly, Ford’s economical runabout took a hiatus from the North American market in 2002. But now, we’re happy to announce that it’s coming back…to China.

The Chinese-market Escort will share its platform with the Ford Focus. Judging by some of the styling cues, it’s not hard to make out the resemblance. Power will come courtesy of Ford’s 1.5L Ti-VCT four-cylinder, but fuel economy is not listed in the initial blurb.

It comes at a crucial point for the Chinese market, which is expected to grow to around 7.2 million vehicles by 2017. Ford will rely on the Escort and Focus (the brand’s current best-seller) to go head to head with Chevy’s newly redesigned Cruze.
