David Ortiz has been at the forefront of Red Sox history for the better part of the last decade. And on Wednesday night, Big Papi added to the record books again—just not in the way you might've envisioned. Ortiz crushed a three-run homer to put the Sox up 4-2 in the eighth inning of a game against the Rangers. But it wasn't the hit itself that set a record of any sort. Instead, it was the resulting trip around the bases.
A combination of the slugger's general sluggish pace and the fact that he waited in the batter's box to make sure the ball was fair resulted in Ortiz recording the slowest home run trot ever. That's right, folks. It took him 32.91 seconds to travel around the diamond, surpassing the previous mark of 31.56 seconds set by Bobby Abreu in 2012. Could he have gone any slower here?!
