It's the Ford Mustang's 50th birthday, and a new generation of Mustangs is still being paraded about so the general public can make "oooooooh" noises. It's a good time to work for Ford. What this means is that the obligatory 50th Anniversary Special Edition was just unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.
The Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition comes with a Kona Blue or Wimbledon White exterior on a two tone, off-white and black interior. The steering wheel is leather stitched with cashmere, because Ford decided to go all Rolls-Royce on us, and a special logo has been embossed on the seats. The car also got a subtle dose of extra chrome, for nostalgia's sake.
Mechanically, all of the 50th specials will have the performance pack and the 5.0L V8 connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. This is the only way to get the performance pack on an automatic Mustang.
