'Explosion' might not be the most creative name in the book, but we’re just glad to see Gumpert back on the up-and-up. After some financial trouble in 2012, Gumpert found a backer and has been able to present us with this very orange, very outrageous coupe.
Underneath the Explosion lies a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which allegedly puts out 420-horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s pretty astonishing as four-bangers go, and sounds eerily similar to the output from Audi’s latest TT Quattro Concept. The power goes to all four wheels – fed through a six-speed manual – accelerating the Explosion from zero to 60 in about three seconds, and onto a rumored top speed of over 186mph.
Want one? Expect to pay about $144,000 to have your own Explosion. Sorry, the innuendo is unavoidable.
