Is Aldon Smith's NFL career over? It might be. The 49ers linebacker is currently away at a rehab center getting treatment for substance abuse. He's on "indefinite leave" from the Niners.

And that "indefinite leave" might turn into forever. That's because the Santa Clara County District Attorney just filed three felony charges of possession of assault weapons against Smith. Those charges stem from a party that Smith held back in the summer of 2012 that featured two men getting shot and Smith himself getting stabbed.

There has been no word yet as to whether Smith needs to answer to these charges immediately or finish out his stint in rehab before answering to them. But either way, it's becoming increasingly clear that Smith's NFL future is in serious doubt.
